About the role

The purpose of this position is to develop detailed design drawings from engineering data with minimal supervision, providing supporting analysis and documentation as required.

Responsibilities

  • Capable of developing original design concepts based upon sound engineering principles with minimal guidance.
  • Create 2D layouts or 3D models from sketches and engineering data to determine size, shape and arrangement of components; define part requirements including dimensions, tolerances, finishes, material and clearance.
  • Produce installation, assembly and detail drawings from 2D layouts or 3D models.
  • Perform analysis to support design as required to complete assigned tasks or resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical direction and support to manufacturing throughout all phases of training equipment production including fabrication, assembly, test, and installation.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate initiative and independent thought in developing potential solutions to problems using available tools and information.
  • Recognized as a resource to others.
  • Able to translate complex nuances to others.
  • Able to improve processes.
  • Provides guidance to less senior Teammates in the department.
  • Collaborates with other Teammates as required.
  • Performs independently.
  • Performs within department budget and schedules.
  • Approach problem solving from the point of view of what is the best overall solution.
  • Travel as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum Experience: 2+ years of related experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Capable of developing original design concepts based upon sound engineering principles with minimal guidance.
  • 2D drafting package and 3D modeling package, preferably Solidworks.
  • Experience with materials, manufacturing processes, design for manufacturing, and PLM/configuration control.
  • Strong communication skills when discussing technical topics with coworkers.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in support of production schedules.
  • Microsoft Office suite.
  • Stress or vibrational analysis (FEA) would be an advantage.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
