About the role

You will serve in a developmental capacity within the Facilities Infrastructure Management Department, providing specialized mechanical engineering support for industrial HVAC, chilled water systems, air compressors, and industrial ventilation.

You will be tasked with increasingly difficult assignments designed to build your proficiency in these core facility disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing, developing and assisting with mechanical engineering projects
  • Understanding and interpreting specifications, drawings, and mechanical designs
  • Applying knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, methodologies, and principles, in relation to aircraft processes, facilities, and equipment

Requirements

Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Qualifications

Qualifications must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Analyzing, developing and assisting with mechanical engineering projects
  • Understanding and interpreting specifications, drawings, and mechanical designs
  • Applying knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, methodologies, and principles, in relation to aircraft processes, facilities, and equipment

Skills

The following education may be substituted for specialized experience:

  • One year of directly related graduate level education (18 semester hours)
  • Superior academic achievement at the baccalaureate level in an engineering program

Additional Information

A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required, typically supplemented by specialized knowledge in HVAC, plumbing, and compressed air systems.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

Several vacancies may be filled.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.

Military Spouse Preference applicants will receive priority consideration at the Full Performance Level (FPL) and if determined to be Best Qualified at the FPL, and selected, must be placed at the FPL. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.

Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ). A BQ military spouse possesses knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies comparable to others who meet the competitive referral criteria for the specific position.
