Mechanical Design Specialist / Spécialiste en conception mécanique

Vention · Lachine, MI · 3 days ago
Full-time

What You’ll Do

  • Detailed Design Execution: Perform detailed mechanical design for custom automation systems.
  • Translate scoping inputs into complete, production-ready designs using Vention's platform and third-party software suites (Solidworks).
  • BOM Generation & Release: Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) and release designs for production. Manage revision cycles and maintain design integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Project Documentation: Produce the full suite of project documentation required for production and customer handoff, including Assembly Sequence Diagrams (ASD), layout drawings, assembly instructions, and spare parts lists.
  • Operations Work Packages: Create detailed operations work packages that enable the assembly team to build systems efficiently and to specification.
  • Sourcing & Supplier Quoting: Coordinate final quoting with third-party suppliers for non-standard components, supporting the sourcing phase to ensure design intent is met within budget.
  • Test Plan Design: Collaborate with project managers to design test plans for key subsystems, defining acceptance criteria and validation procedures ahead of the build and testing phases.
  • Build & Test Support: Provide hands-on technical support during assembly of sub-components, mechanical installation, electrical installation and testing. Serve as the design authority on the floor, resolving issues in real time.
  • Design Problem Resolution: Own the design problem resolution process end-to-end, brainstorming solutions, implementing design changes, ordering replacement parts, and updating documentation to reflect the final configuration.
  • Maintenance Documentation: Create comprehensive maintenance documentation to support customers in operating and servicing their systems post-delivery.
  • Training & Feedback Loop to Pre-Sales: Maintain a continuous feedback loop with Solution Architects and pre-sales application engineers. Train pre-sales application engineers on design best practices, common failure modes, and lessons learned from delivered projects.
  • PLM Feedback Loop: Contribute structured feedback to the PLM process to drive improvements in standard components, assemblies, and design guidelines.

What You Bring To The Table

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electromechanical engineering.
    • 3–5 years of relevant experience in industrial automation mechanical design, with direct exposure to custom system delivery (automated equipment, conveyors, actuators, structures, robotics, etc.).
    • Proven ability to take a machine design from scoping inputs through to a released, production-ready package.
    • Strong knowledge of the industrial automation industry and the post-sales project execution process.
    • Experience generating and managing Bills of Materials (BOM), Assembly Sequence and complete project documentation packages.
    • Hands-on experience supporting assembly, installation, and commissioning of automated systems.
    • Experience with SolidWorks and PLM is a strong asset.
    • Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, pre-sales, and field teams.
    • Membership in the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec is an asset.
