About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team focused on the design and development of manufacturing processes, fixtures, and equipment for a cutting-edge surgical robotic platform. This role will primarily support the design, integration, and improvement of equipment and tooling used to build complex systems, with limited involvement in testing activities.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical design background, demonstrate creativity and sound engineering judgment, and be capable of developing innovative solutions from concept through release. This role requires both the ability to create new designs from scratch and enhance existing equipment to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and production equipment.
  • Create new mechanical designs and implement modifications to existing equipment.
  • Support system and equipment design initiatives across multiple projects.
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate off-the-shelf mechanical and automation components into larger systems.
  • Develop detailed engineering documentation, drawings, bills of materials, and release packages.
  • Manage design releases and engineering changes through company documentation and PLM systems.
  • Collaborate with controls, automation, manufacturing, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful equipment integration.
  • Apply engineering best practices to improve reliability, efficiency, and overall process performance.
  • Identify potential design risks and proactively develop solutions to minimize failures and support long-term operability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5 to 10 years of mechanical design experience in industrial equipment, automation, manufacturing systems, or related environments.
  • Strong proficiency in mechanical design principles, engineering fundamentals, and problem-solving.
  • Experience designing equipment and fixtures from concept through implementation.
  • Ability to modify and improve existing designs while maintaining performance and manufacturability.
  • Experience working with engineering documentation, drawing release processes, and change management systems.
  • Understanding of controls, automation, and system integration concepts.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing manufacturing equipment, assembly fixtures, and automated systems.
  • Python programming experience for engineering analysis, automation, or design-related applications.
  • Background working in cross-functional engineering environments involving mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
  • Experience integrating commercial off-the-shelf equipment into custom solutions.
