Mechanical Design Engineer
This position is within the Linear Motion Division of the Automation & Controls Segment, a global team of approximately 1,500 associates generating $400M in revenue across 9 main sites in the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe.
About the role
The Mechanical Design Engineer II develops new products (platform or Customer Lead Opportunity - CLO) that meet performance, cost, and quality requirements. This role also creates clear technical documentation and procedures for reference by other design, manufacturing, or quality engineers.
Responsibilities
- Provide drawings and documentation for moderately complex components and processes.
- Recommend and document solutions for complex components and processes to the engineering manager or project team.
- Use computer-aided design analysis tools to optimize designs efficiently.
- Support existing products through cost reduction, failure analysis, application solutions, and product derivatives.
- Perform MRB dispositioning (Material Review Board).
- Meet Tall Gates and contract deliverables (launch OTD, product and project cost, and quality metrics).
- Deliver designs that meet VOC (Voice of Customer) and VOP (Voice of Process) inputs and requirements.
- Create product and process design documentation leveraging reference designs and best practices to enable design traceability.
- Review existing designs to support selection of alternate designs and components while maintaining original design intent.
Requirements
- 4-year degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Ability to perform design calculations.
- Proficiency with computer-aided design tools; SolidWorks and PDM experience desirable.
- Understanding of design requirements, part function, and manufacturing principles.
- Ability to facilitate technical discussions with internal and external customers (application or specification review and VOC).
- Ability to solve moderately complex problems.
- Willingness to travel 5-10% of the time by all forms of transportation.

Pay
Expected base salary range: $80,000 - $90,000. The salary range reflects base pay compensation for this position and may vary based on factors such as physical worksite location, geographic market, candidate's skill set, experience, education, and internal peer comparisons.
