Mechanical Design Engineer
Pay rate: $55.00 - $57.00/hr.
About the role
As a member of the Steam Power Services engineering team in Americas, you will be an active contributor to steam turbine service engineering activities such as outage planning and execution, technical guidance to field engineers, root cause analysis on product and process issues, design of steam turbine components, and technical support to parts engineering and sourcing teams for product designs related to form, fit, and function. This role requires partnering with rotating equipment steam turbine design engineering teams globally to provide safe, reliable, and quality-focused product solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical disposition and guidance to field engineers and service managers during outage planning and execution for industrial, fossil, and nuclear steam turbines, including both Company and OEM equipment.
- Support site and customer-facing teams on steam turbine design and service-related queries and applications.
- Lead small-scale steam turbine service projects of low to moderate complexity, ensuring successful execution and delivery (e.g., steam turbine interchangeability study).
- Support and advise sourcing teams in resolving material substitution and product non-conformance issues.
- Provide technical expertise to parts engineering and sourcing teams, ensuring product design requirements related to form, fit, and function are achieved.
- Evaluate and disposition product and process non-conformances, driving corrective and preventive actions through structured root cause analysis.
- Travel domestically as needed to support customer site activities (approximately 5-10% travel).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in steam turbine service engineering.
- Minimum of 1+ years of field execution experience, preferably within the power generation industry.
- NX CAD drafting experience is a bonus.

- Established project management skills.
- Good understanding of steam turbine and balance of plant systems and operations.
- Knowledge of steam turbine rotating and stationary components inspection methods and repairs.
- Experience with steam turbine disassembly, assembly, startups, and operational exposure.
- Respectful, receptive, agile, and eager to learn.
Pay
The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is $55.00 - $57.00/hr. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law.
