Mechanical Design Engineer
This position involves overseeing the complete product design process from inception to release for manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with customers to determine their needs and either create new products or adapt existing ones to meet those specifications. A significant portion of your time will be spent using CAD software to design components and assemblies for mobile equipment, while the remaining time will be dedicated to supporting production and shop projects.
Responsibilities
- Create new options for existing products typically at the request of a customer during a rig sale.
- Collaborate with a team (sales, production, engineering, vendors/customers) to design and develop new drilling equipment focused on operator safety, competitive advantages, and overall product/process improvement.
- Work closely with electric and hydraulic controls engineers to ensure cohesive design integration.
- Review and address engineering change requests from sales, service, and production departments.
- Assist internal production and service departments with the implementation and service of new and existing designs.
- Generate component drawings and BOMs for all rig designs to be procured from outside vendors.
- Adhere to engineering processes and documentation standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Discipline (preferably ME, MET).
- 5 - 10 years of experience in 3D design with CAD software (SolidEdge preferred, but others are acceptable).
- 5+ years of experience with BOMs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- 5+ years of experience in FEA work.
Skills
- Experience in mobile equipment manufacturing is a plus.
- 5+ years of manufacturing design experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mobile equipment with moving parts is desirable.
- Comfortability in a job shop, fabrication environment.
Schedule
- 1st shift opportunity from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM ET, Monday through Friday, with potential for overtime.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $52.88 - $58.69/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
This is a Contract to Hire position based in Indianapolis, IN, and is fully onsite.
