About the role

This role focuses on transforming engineering concepts, redlined drawings, and standard product designs into precise custom production documentation using 2D and 3D CAD tools. You will support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of electro-mechanical equipment designs while collaborating closely with engineering and manufacturing teams in a fast-paced production environment.

This is an onsite, 6–9 month contract position in Jeffersontown, KY, with the potential to transition to a direct role based on business needs and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify detailed 2D drawings and 3D models based on engineering direction, redlined prints, and standard product designs.
  • Develop custom parts and assemblies, ensuring designs meet functional, manufacturability, and quality requirements.
  • Produce accurate production drawings that support fabrication, assembly, and installation of electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Create and update bills of materials (BOMs) within the ERP system to reflect current designs and revisions.
  • Maintain accurate design documentation, including drawing files, models, and revision histories.
  • Ensure all work complies with established drafting and design standards and aligns with company procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing, and other team members to resolve design issues and implement improvements.
  • Use SolidWorks and DraftSight/AutoCAD daily to generate, revise, and manage drawings and models.
  • Leverage SolidWorks PDM to store, control, and track design data and revisions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting design enhancements and more efficient drafting practices.
  • Manage multiple design projects and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines and project milestones.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of CAD design experience in a manufacturing or product design environment.
  • Hands-on experience designing electro-mechanical products or capital equipment.
  • Proficiency in 2D drafting, including layout drawings and pneumatic schematics.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, assemblies, and detail drawings.
  • Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks for 3D modeling and drafting.
  • Experience using DraftSight and/or AutoCAD for 2D drafting.
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM for managing design data and revisions.
  • Ability to create and update bills of materials (BOMs) within an ERP system.
  • Strong problem-solving skills applied to mechanical and electro-mechanical design challenges.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate across functions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in CAD Design or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor and Vault is a plus.
  • SOLIDWORKS certification is a plus.
  • Experience with machine design and general mechanical design principles.
  • Familiarity with drafting standards and best practices.
  • Comfort working within a culture focused on continuous improvement and employee involvement.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role in a clean, air-conditioned manufacturing and engineering environment. You will work with modern CAD tools such as SolidWorks, DraftSight/AutoCAD, and potentially Autodesk Inventor and Vault, as well as SolidWorks PDM and an ERP system for BOM management.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $43.00/hr. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
