Mechanical Craft Worker

  • Assists journey level mechanics in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial plant mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, large horsepower gear boxes and mixers, bar screens, conveyor belts, slurry pumps and chemical feed pumps.
  • Participates in the repair of mechanical equipment used in the wastewater industry, Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and compost facility.
  • Performs maintenance and repair work of a routine nature under the direct supervision of a Plant Mechanic.
  • Inventories or restocks frequently used supplies and materials.
  • Maintains activity logs and records of jobs completed and supplies and equipment used.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain facilities and performs general cleaning/housekeeping maintenance tasks.
  • Works days, but may be called to work weekends, evenings, and weather-related events to perform emergency work as assigned.
  • Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.

Industrial Plant Mechanic I

  • May assist in the response to calls for emergency repairs.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair work.
  • Maintains various activity records and logs of supplies and equipment used.
  • Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.

Additional Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience working as a mechanic's helper or comparable position is preferred.
  • Basic Windows and computer knowledge and skill level required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in welding; welding certification is desirable but not required.
  • A general knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting is desired.
  • A general knowledge of mechanical maintenance for application in an industrial plant environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and techniques of an equipment mechanic. Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions. Basic mathematics.
  • Working with hand and power tools. Performing maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Operating farm equipment such as large tractors/backhoes.
  • Using hand and power tools to perform maintenance activities. Reading and understanding manuals.
  • Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  • Working as a member of a team, becoming increasingly knowledgeable and skillful in the field chosen.
  • Performing basic mathematical calculations. Operating large tractors/backhoes.
  • Learning the proper use of all related heavy equipment and shop tools.

Pay

  • $38,750.40 - $63,523.20 annual for Mechanical Craft Worker
  • $37,523.20 - $78,166.40 annual for Industrial Plant Mechanic I

Schedule

  • Works days, but may be called to work weekends, evenings, and weather-related events to perform emergency work as assigned.
