Mechanical Craft Worker or Industrial Plant Mechanic I
About the role
The Mechanical Craft Worker and Industrial Plant Mechanic I positions are being filled to support the maintenance needs of industrial plant mechanical systems. Pay grades will be determined based on the job title and the candidate's experience, skills, and knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Assists journey level mechanics in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial plant mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, gear boxes, mixers, bar screens, conveyor belts, slurry pumps, and chemical feed pumps.
- Participates in the repair of mechanical equipment used in the wastewater industry, Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), and compost facility.
- Maintains activity logs and records of jobs completed and supplies and equipment used.
- Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain facilities and performs general cleaning/housekeeping maintenance tasks.
- Works days, but may be called to work weekends, evenings, and weather-related events to perform emergency work as assigned.
- Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.
- May assist in the response to calls for emergency repairs.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair work.
- Inventories or restocks frequently used supplies and materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of progressively responsible experience working as a mechanic's helper or comparable position is preferred.
- Basic Windows and computer knowledge and skill level required.
- Ability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and weather-related events as scheduled or needed in accordance with departmental policies.
Qualifications
- Intermediate proficiency in welding; welding certification is desirable but not required.
- A general knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting is desired.
- A general knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and techniques of an equipment mechanic.
- Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
- Basic mathematics.
Skills
- Use of hand and power tools to perform maintenance activities.
- Read and understand manuals.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Work as a member of a team, becoming increasingly knowledgeable and skillful in the field chosen.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Operate large tractors/backhoes.
- Learn the proper use of all related heavy equipment and shop tools.
