Mechanical and Pipe Resource Leader

About the Role

You will supervise and provide technical direction to a team of engineers, ensuring the total delivery of mechanical deliverables and services on time, within budget, and meeting quality expectations. This role involves advanced engineering work as a technical specialist for complex assignments, utilizing project controls for cost, scheduling, and quality. Work will be performed in our Beaumont office with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve all mechanical deliverables.
  • Validate professional services and construction estimates at project onset and track changes throughout the project.
  • Perform engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
  • Produce professional service estimates in accordance with department standards for project deliverables, studies, change notices, and proposal efforts.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient engineering solutions.
  • Establish design criteria incorporating client requirements, estimates, and applicable standards/codes.
  • Ensure permitting requirements are communicated to the project team.
  • Maintain working knowledge of scope and deliverables; initiate change notices for deviations affecting schedule, deliverables, or cost.
  • Plan, organize, and communicate work plans to your team, project leadership, and clients.
  • Maintain project control by tracking performance budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
  • Delegate work proportionate to engineers' skills and experience, ensuring efficient progress and quality.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure coordination and progress.
  • Produce detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
  • Ensure calculations are neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking and use by drafters/designers.
  • Design projects with an emphasis on efficient use of materials and ease of construction.
  • Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy, code conformance, and good engineering practice.
  • Produce construction specifications and monitor drawings for conformance to design calculations.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Provide sufficient sketches and details for completion of engineering drawings.
  • Produce bid packages for mechanical purchase inquiries.
  • Understand the skills and experience required for engineering and design functions.
  • Participate in planning training programs, continuous improvement opportunities, and professional development of staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university (required).
  • Professional Engineering registration (highly preferred or may be required).
  • 10 or more years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering and management.

Skills

  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Application and specification of piping materials and development of material procurement specifications.
  • Good design practices for sizing piping systems, including compressible fluid piping systems.
  • Flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems.
  • Manual valve sizing, use, and application.
  • Identification, application, and specification of safety valves and steam traps/liquid drainers.
  • Coordination of design efforts with other disciplines.
  • Understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for mechanical deliverables.
  • Ability to estimate task completion, develop construction cost estimates, and create detailed engineering schedules.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities and develop design criteria/scope of work.
  • Creation of accurate mechanical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Development of mechanical installation specifications.
  • Estimating and scheduling professional service hours, assessing progress and quality of mechanical work.
  • Knowledge and application of Hargrove engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Leadership skills to deliver on commitments with a small team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships.
  • Leadership in interoffice execution.
