Mechanic/Millwright

About the role

At our SMS group East Pittsburgh workshop, we refurbish and repair unique and specialized equipment for our customers. We are currently looking for an experienced skilled mechanic to join our team, learn our equipment and continue to grow with us.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed
• Disassemble, repair/recondition with precision, assemble and test equipment
• Perform fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment
• Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects
• Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required
• Provide any additional support where needed

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience with refurbishment/reconditioning on parts in a job shop or similar environment
• Knowledge of and prior experience in disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts
• Knowledge of and prior experience in the use of hand and power tools
• Ability to read prints and drawings (preferred)
• Knowledge of and prior experience in overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques (required)
• Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with precision and accuracy
• Experience with heavy mechanical assemblies (preferred)
• Knowledge of machining and fabrication methods (preferred)
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems (preferred)
• Knowledge of electrical systems (wiring motors and small panels) (preferred)
• Understanding of blast furnace equipment (a plus)
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Education: Vocational or High School; Specialized Technical Training and/or on-the-job experience (preferred)

Physical Demands

• Remain in a standing or walking position for extended periods
• Stoop, kneel, crouch and bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
