Mechanic, Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Maintenance Technician at Savage’s Lake Charles, Louisiana Facility will perform preventative maintenance and repair of equipment used at the facility.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor/major repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance on pickups, mobile equipment, tractors, and trailers.
• Assist with other facility mechanical repairs as necessary.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and parts inventory.
• Learn and partner with the Maintenance Supervisor to utilize the CMMS system for organization and preventative maintenance record keeping.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements and proper safety rules, maintenance, and operating procedures.
• Assist with writing and revising maintenance procedures as needed.
• Support other areas of the operation, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor, including duties outside typical diesel mechanic responsibilities.

Requirements

• Must meet refinery standards for entering the plant: clean criminal history, ability to pass a drug & alcohol screen, possess a current Driver’s License and TWIC card at the time of applying.
• Experience in troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems.
• Experience identifying and diagnosing needed repairs via computer-based systems; visual recognition of problems is a plus.
• Invested interest in operational safety.
• Able to read, write, and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions.
• Welding experience is a plus.
• Willingness to perform a significant amount of preventative maintenance.
• Prepared to assist with any tasks requiring attention, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Environmental awareness.
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Knowledge and experience using a CMMS is helpful.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a mobile equipment mechanic/diesel mechanic for pickups, tractors, and trailers required.
• Certifications preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

• On your feet for extended periods throughout the day.
• Navigating the facility may include exposure to harsh weather conditions, uneven ground, ladders, racks, high places, slick or uneven surfaces, and other industrial hazards.
• Work site is an industrial setting requiring safe operation and compliance with strict OSHA and State regulations.
