Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Completes repair maintenance work on school system vehicles and equipment.
- Conducts vehicle safety and preventative maintenance inspections.
- Utilizes computerized diagnostic equipment in determining service requirements.
- Repairs and/or replaces necessary units and related parts including brakes, cooling systems, fuel systems, and exhaust systems.
- Repair and overhaul front and rear axle assemblies.
- Repairs most types of tires.
- Fuels buses as necessary.
- Responds to service and accident calls on disabled and damaged school system buses.
- Responds to any emergency situations as they arise.
- Practices safe work habits involving self and others.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and productive work area.
- Maintains inventory and work orders using a computer system.
- Provides own basic tools of the trade.
- May be required to furnish own transportation, as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade with experience as a journeyman and required; possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle operator’s license (Commercial Driver’s license with airbrakes and passenger endorsement, school bus endorsement with 5 or fewer current points, with no more than three (2) points resulting from traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle).
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
