Mechanic II

About the role

The Mechanic II is responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles, supporting the Construction team and collaborating with department personnel.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and repair company equipment, such as pickup trucks, line trucks, trailers, mini excavators, backhoes, compressors, and generators, in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
• Perform road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to ensure quality of repairs and service.
• Place orders for required parts, materials, and supplies as needed.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports.
• Monitor prioritized projects, activities, and assignments to meet deadlines.
• Maintain tools, supplies, and workstations in a clean, safe, and presentable manner.
• Provide support and training for Mechanic I.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• 3 years of experience in vehicle and equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics.
• Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures.
• Ability to perform tune-ups, brake jobs (hydraulic), and basic wiring.
• Basic diesel and drivetrain experience.
• Ability to use a cutting torch and basic welding skills.
• Knowledge of minor heavy equipment repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4 or more years of experience.
• DOT Certified Flagger.
• CDL Class A license.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This role operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work may occur in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The position is physically active, requiring the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Additional demands include:

• Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
• Precise hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
