Mechanic Helper
About the role
We are currently seeking a Shop Helper to join our Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. team. Reporting to the Shop Foreman under the Equipment Group, the Mechanic Helper is responsible for assisting the shop and field mechanics with running the shop efficiently and repairs to include but not limited to running for parts, preparing tools needed and performing minor repairs. This position works along with the entire Equipment Team to support the completion of assigned equipment repair and construction projects and helps ensure all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines. This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction. This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.
Responsibilities
- Make small repairs on various pieces of construction equipment and trucks.
- Assist the Field Service Center as needed with various tasks related to equipment maintenance and tools inventory.
- Assist shop mechanic with repairs as advised and provide assistance running for parts as needed.
- Assist field mechanics with repairs in the field on construction sites.
- Assist the Lube Technician with preventative maintenance services on construction equipment in the shop and on project sites.
Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) years of experience in construction, mechanic shop or both.
- Mechanically inclined, mechanical knowledge.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
Education
HS Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
Mechanical knowledge; experience in construction and/or mechanical work in shop or field setting; mechanical schooling considered.
Special Skills
Ability to communicate effectively and take instructions.
Travel
Open to some travel in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
- Must be able to bend, squat, and kneel occasionally throughout a scheduled work shift.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Continuous standing and walking required throughout a scheduled work shift.
- Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
- Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot and humid weather.
- Acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing required.

Pay
$18 – 20 per hour; based on experience.
