Mechanic Automotive-Truck- South Shop - Shift 1
This position reports to the Assistant Manager and is classified as non-exempt, full-time regular employment.

Responsibilities
- Support, repair, and maintain light and heavy-duty vehicles, semi-trucks, trailers, gas and diesel vehicles, and diesel-powered forklifts.
- Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic systems, starter motors, automotive air conditioning, charging systems, portable air compressors, welders, and small truck cranes.
- Inspect vehicles for damage and record findings to ensure necessary repairs are made.
- Perform routine and scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
- Change spark plugs, fuel filters, and batteries.
- Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine cooling, and electrical systems.
- Test drive vehicles and test components/systems using computerized diagnostic devices to ensure proper repairs and safety.
- Assist other shop mechanics in maintaining company vehicles, including shuttle trucks, auto/truck repairs, and various trailers/equipment.
- Check equipment for damage, record hours used, mileage, and fuel levels.
- Work with high integrity and comply with corporate guidelines on business ethics.
- Collaborate with Department Supervisors and Managers to accomplish project goals.
- Read service guides to find information needed to perform repairs.
- Record repairs required, parts used, and labor time.
- Communicate with Lead and Manager regarding day-to-day vehicle maintenance schedules and maintain quality control of completed tasks.
- Operate stationary and moving overhead cranes, forklifts, and other equipment within safety guidelines.
- Conduct visual inspections to identify cracks, gouges, abrasions, discoloration, broken fibers, loose brackets, damaged gaskets, or other problems.
- Assist in the pickup and delivery of equipment and parts to and from outside vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5+ years’ experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on various auto/truck vehicles (gas and diesel) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and clean driving record (verified through background check).
Skills
- Solid background in automotive/truck gas and diesel equipment, troubleshooting engines, repair, and maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of Arc/MIG welding and cutting methods.
- Solid background in automotive/truck 12V and 24V electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose complex 12V and 24V electrical systems on mobile equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic hydraulic systems on forklifts and heavy-duty yard trucks.
- Knowledge of forklift hydraulic components, safety decals, and compliance.
- Knowledge to diagnose and repair diesel emissions systems.
- Previous experience in “Total Process Reliability” (TPR) maintenance is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree in automotive/truck gas and diesel maintenance and repairs.
- Technical degree in electrical and electronics.
- Technical school training for hydraulic troubleshooting.
Physical Demands
- Ability to ascend and descend ramps, steps, ladders, and stairs using three-point contact.
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
- Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
- Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, gases, and inclement weather temperatures.
- Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to work on ladders, stairs, and boom lifts.
Schedule
1st Shift – 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may also be required depending on department/business needs.
Pay
$23.00 - $31.00 per hour.
