MECH TECH G 3 / OUTSIDE MACHINIST

The Role

Must Have:

• Experience operating and maintaining various types of machinery and equipment
• Knowledge of mechanical principles and practices
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools
• Physical ability to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, lifting, and reaching

Nice to Have:

• Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment
• Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques
• Experience with CNC machines or similar automated systems
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Good communication and teamwork abilities

About the Role

At Newport News Shipbuilding, we are seeking a Mech Tech G 3 / Outside Machinist to join our team. This position is located in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.

Operate and maintain various types of machinery and equipment, including but not limited to lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses.

Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to determine proper procedures for operation and repair.

Use hand and power tools to perform tasks such as cutting, drilling, grinding, and assembling components.

Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with established safety protocols.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.

Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Skills

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
