This is an entry-level clerical-auditing and clerical-accounting position at a toll facility or other location managed by the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA). The employee works in the E-ZPass Customer Service Center (CSC) and/or inside the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) facility, handling face-to-face E-ZPass and video toll transactions with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, verify, and account for variable sums of money collected.
  • Handle all revenue payment types, including cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Greet customers and open new E-ZPass transponders for the public.
  • Provide customer service and analyze/research customer accounts.
  • Perform data entry and computations using equipment such as cash drawers, computer terminals, specialized software, adding machines, currency and coin counters, and transponder readers.
  • Work a rotating or permanent shift that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform some lifting of moderately heavy items.

Location

The current vacancy is in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The selected incumbent will work a rotating schedule between the E-ZPass CSC/MVA in Upper Marlboro, MD, CSC/MVA in Beltsville, MD, and CSC/MVA in Gaithersburg, MD. Future vacancies in this classification may be filled throughout the agency.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two years of clerical or accounting experience involving the receipt, handling, and accounting for money and/or checks and credit cards in commercial or government activities, including customer service to the public.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License in the State of Maryland.
  • Willingness to work as an "Essential Employee" subject to emergency release procedures, including remaining on or reporting for duty at any time to maintain continuous facility operations.

  • Excellent oral communication skills for interacting with external customers and internal staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to respond verbally to customer inquiries.
  • Ability to provide prompt, accurate, and courteous service to the public.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and make accurate arithmetical calculations.
