Maven Java Support Engineer

Our client provides a market-leading disease surveillance and outbreak management system designed to support fast-moving and rapidly evolving public health crises. Its technology supports public health and safety programs across multiple states and cities in the U.S. and internationally. The platform provides visibility and coordination across all aspects of an outbreak, helping organizations prevent, manage, and recover from public health emergencies. The system securely tracks individuals infected with or exposed to serious communicable diseases, including Novel Coronavirus, Ebola, Zika, measles, tuberculosis, HIV/STDs, and influenza.

About the Role

The Maven Java Support Engineer provides first- and second-level technical software support to clients using the organization’s public health platform. This role focuses on troubleshooting and resolving production issues, supporting software releases and migrations, managing service tickets, and ensuring client issues are addressed within established service level agreements. The position requires strong technical problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication with both clients and internal engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide production support services, including issue resolution, change-request builds, software release migrations, and implementations.
• Track support issues, migration requests, and change requests using Jira while meeting client-specific SLAs.
• Participate in issue tracking, ticket review, and support meetings.
• Collaborate closely with support engineers, core engineering teams, and Quality Assurance teams to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
• Assist with software releases, deployments, migrations, and implementation activities.
• Participate in after-hours phone support as required.
• Follow organizational policies and procedures for time reporting.
• Travel to client or company locations when required.
• Conduct software security scans and participate in code reviews.
• Document technical issues, resolutions, and support activities accurately.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Software Development or equivalent professional experience.
• 4+ years of experience in Java software development.
• Experience working with enterprise software applications.
• Public health industry experience is a plus.

Skills

• Strong proficiency in Java/J2EE.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of JavaScript technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, and Ajax.
• Experience working with XML.
• Familiarity with application servers such as Tomcat and WebSphere.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure is helpful.
• Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall development methodologies is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production support environment.
