About the Role
A well-established law firm in Orange County, NY is seeking an experienced Matrimonial & Family Law Paralegal to join its growing legal team. This position supports attorneys handling divorce, custody, support, visitation, and other family law matters from initial filing through settlement, hearing, or trial. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple active cases in a fast-paced litigation environment.
Responsibilities
- Support attorneys throughout all phases of matrimonial and family law cases
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including motions, pleadings, affidavits, discovery requests, and correspondence
- Assist with financial disclosure, case documentation, and discovery organization
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical case files
- Track court dates, deadlines, hearings, conferences, and depositions
- Schedule client meetings, court appearances, and related legal appointments
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and third-party service providers
- Prepare and file legal documents through New York electronic filing systems
- Assist with trial, hearing, and settlement preparation
- Conduct legal and case-related research as needed
- Maintain case information within the firm's legal case management systems
Requirements
- 3–5 years of matrimonial and family law paralegal experience required
- Strong understanding of New York family law procedures and litigation processes
- Experience preparing discovery, financial documentation, and court filings
- Familiarity with New York court systems and electronic filing procedures
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters while meeting critical deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management software
- Experience with legal research platforms such as LexisNexis or Westlaw is a plus
- Paralegal Certificate or degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
