Mathematics Tutor (PT)
Location: Utica, NY • Part-Time, 10-Month position

The College is seeking a Mathematics Tutor to support students in our Learning Commons Math Lab.
Responsibilities
- Tutor students in a wide range of math courses, from Basic Algebra to Calculus
- Use probing questions and supported inquiry to help students answer their own questions
- Engage students in active learning practices
- Discuss course material to strengthen understanding and address knowledge gaps
- Assist students in developing effective study strategies
- Provide encouragement and motivation to support student retention and completion
- Maintain accurate records and monitor sign-in stations
- Refer students to instructors and specialized services such as counseling and advisement as appropriate
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Learning Commons
Requirements
- Associate's degree or a minimum of 60 completed college credits in Mathematics or related field
- Competence in the areas of Calculus
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Fluency in the subject matter relevant to students’ needs
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or related field
- Experience teaching or tutoring at a community college
- Experience using Blackboard
- Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds
Schedule
Work schedule will be based on the needs of the department and the availability of the applicant. Minimum of 20 hours per week.
Pay
$17.94 per hour
