Math Interventionist

About the Role

Under the direction of the school principal and/or assistant principal, the teacher is responsible for implementing research-based instructional strategies that direct the learning process and achievement of assigned students. This includes developing, nurturing, and sustaining a school and classroom culture conducive to student learning. All instruction will be individualized, addressing differences in learning style, rate of learning, level of maturation, and level of achievement. Teachers are expected to vary materials, rate of instruction, and methodology based on frequent assessment. The Special Education teacher will serve students with all disabilities and gifted and talented students across all grades, including preschool, utilizing a variety of support services and settings.

Responsibilities

• Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment, including teaching subjects outside of the area of preparation with provided training.
• Employ appropriate methods of assessment to identify student proficiency levels and plan short and long-range programs to accommodate those needs using formative and summative student achievement data.
• Foster harmonious and cooperative interpersonal relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members.
• Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan and NSBSD Pedagogy.
• Participate in educational committees and organizations for personal growth and professional promotion.
• Develop awareness of local culture and provide bicultural or multicultural instruction that responds to diverse community interests and needs.
• Use Rubicon Atlas to complete requirements for culture-based unit development per annual expectations.
• Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals in providing services to students as needed.
• Adhere to the code of ethics and professional teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the State.
• Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the Principal and maintain digital copies throughout the year.
• Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
• Perform additional tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education (required); Master’s Degree (preferred).
• Alaska Teacher Certificate (required).
• Three years of experience in education (preferred).
• Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience (preferred).
• Experience may substitute for education: six (6) years of experience for a Bachelor’s Degree; eight (8) years for a Master’s Degree.

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
