Detroit Recovery Project, Inc. (DRP) is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) that provides outpatient recovery support services for those with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. We treat the whole person through integrated programs of primary medical and behavioral healthcare. About the role

The Maternal Infant Health (MIH) Peer Navigator will provide peer support to pregnant and postpartum people identified as having risk for substance misuse. This role involves working with community partners to develop referral pathways to health system navigation, education, health advocacy, and linkage to relevant services, including social support services. The position requires using specialized knowledge, experience, and skills to encourage healthy attitudes and behaviors that prevent the use/misuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an individualized assessment of identified families eligible for the Peer Navigator Pilot.
  • Assist families by connecting them to community resources.
  • Establish relationships to develop a referral pathway of pregnant women to the Agency, with supervisor support.
  • Provide families with a warm handoff to the home visiting service that best fits their needs.
  • Provide scheduled follow-up for families to identify any additional needed support.
  • Assess for and facilitate the completion of a plan of safe care for every identified family.
  • Attend monthly Peer Navigator Group Mental Health Consultations.
  • Participate in staff training and development.
  • Advocate on behalf of persons with behavioral health problems to protect families' rights and reduce stigma.
  • Be familiar with local community resources and link individuals to identified services (housing, treatment, medical services, employment, etc.).
  • Input data directly into iPad/tablet during services.
  • Develop and maintain written documentation (assessments, service plans, progress notes, monthly reports, and other programmatic documentation).
  • Demonstrate a great attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate’s degree in guidance and counseling, psychology, social work, vocational rehabilitation, business or public health administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) and/or Certified Peer Recovery Mentor (CPRM) are preferred.
  • Experience working with pregnant individuals, new parents, and/or infants in community or healthcare settings.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and work effectively with diverse populations, including families experiencing social, economic, or health-related challenges.
  • Knowledge of basic maternal and infant health topics (prenatal care, postpartum recovery, infant feeding, safe sleep, developmental milestones, etc.).
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in providing direct services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
  • A valid and unrestricted State of Michigan Driver’s License, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Electronic Health/Medical Records Systems.

Pay

The starting pay range for this position is $21.43–$24.00 per hour, based on non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience. This is an hourly non-exempt role eligible for overtime compensation.
