About the role

This is a unique opportunity to serve as the clinical and academic leader of Critical Care MFM at UNC. The department is recognized as one of the top programs in the country for patient care, education, and research.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient care to high-risk obstetric patients, including those requiring intensive care management.
• Provide consultative and co-management critical care services for pregnant and postpartum patients.
• Lead the development and implementation of evidence-based critical care protocols for obstetric patients.
• Build and direct a joint MFM-Critical Care fellowship program in collaboration with relevant departments.
• Develop and expand tele-critical care (e-ICU) capacity to extend critical care expertise to obstetric patients across UNC Health’s regional network.
• Develop and expand tele-critical care (e-ICU) capacity to extend critical care expertise to obstetric patients across UNC Health’s regional network.
• Develop and expand tele-critical care (e-ICU) capacity to extend critical care expertise to obstetric patients across UNC Health’s regional network.

Requirements

• MD or DO required
• Board Certified/Board Eligible/Active Candidate in OB-GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine required, BE/BC in Critical Care preferred.
• Completion of both a 4-year ACGME approved OB-GYN residency and a 3-year ABOG approved fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
• Critical Care Fellowship or equivalent clinical experience in critical care medicine.
• Demonstrated competence in maternal medicine, prenatal diagnosis, and the management of critically ill obstetric patients.
• Commitment to excellence in medical education, quality improvement, and health equity.

• Outstanding record of epidemiologic research
• Participating institution in the NICHD Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network Centers for Cardiovascular Care During Pregnancy and Postpartum, Fetal Care, and Placenta Accreta Spectrum BIRCWH training program
• Biomedical and public health graduate programs offer extensive opportunities for collaboration in basic science and translational research.
• UNC’s Collaborative for Maternal and Infant Health (www.mombaby.org) provides multidisciplinary care coordination for families referred for fetal malformations.
