Maternal and Child Health Nurse - Enhanced
Alpine Shire Council is seeking an experienced and qualified Maternal and Child Health Nurse to join our small, collaborative team. Your passion, communication skills, and professionalism will help deliver an efficient and responsible family health service, supporting the community’s maternal and child health needs through contemporary practice and service improvement.
About the role
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service is free and provides primary care to postnatal women and children from birth to school age. The role supports families with parenting education, social support groups, health promotion, developmental assessment, and early intervention. You will also contribute to the Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service, a home visiting program offering extra support to families who may be at risk, in addition to the Universal MCH service.
This is a temporary part-time position (0.4 FTE) until 30 June 2027, based in Bright, Mount Beauty, and Myrtleford.
Responsibilities
- Deliver primary care to postnatal women and children from birth to school age.
- Provide parenting education, social support, health promotion, and developmental assessments.
- Participate in the Enhanced MCH Service, offering intensive home visiting support to families in need.
- Collaborate with a small team to drive integrated service delivery using evidence-based practices.
- Respond to community needs regarding maternal and child health care, including early intervention.
- Accept telephone referrals from GPs, child and family services, or allied health professionals for Enhanced MCH services.
Requirements
- Registration as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse with AHPRA.
- Qualifications to perform the role of Enhanced MCH services.
- Tertiary qualifications in child and family health nursing (essential).
- Additional qualifications in perinatal and infant mental health, immunisation, or lactation consultancy (desirable).
- Experience in maternal and child health nursing.
