About the role

The Materials Handler will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of all materials and supplies needed for our restoration projects. The primary responsibility will be overseeing the procurement, inventory control, and distribution of materials, while collaborating closely with the Director of Construction, project managers, vendors, and other team members to ensure seamless operations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of inventory management systems, and a proven track record of successful materials management.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with reliable suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate favorable pricing, terms, and contracts to optimize procurement costs.
  • Monitor and maintain an updated database of approved suppliers, evaluating their performance regularly.
  • Develop and implement inventory control procedures to track, manage, and optimize materials and supplies.
  • Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies to ensure accurate stock levels.
  • Utilize inventory management software/systems to maintain real-time visibility and control over stock levels.
  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators to forecast all materials needs for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Analyze historical data, industry trends, and project specifications to develop accurate materials forecasts and procurement plans.
  • Coordinate the timely delivery of materials to project sites, ensuring they meet project schedules and requirements.
  • Work closely with project managers to determine optimal delivery routes, transportation modes, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Monitor and track deliveries, addressing any issues or delays proactively to minimize project disruptions.
  • Ensure all materials and supplies meet required quality standards and comply with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
  • Conduct periodic quality inspections of incoming materials and resolve any non-conformances or discrepancies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and regulatory changes, providing recommendations for improvement when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and other team members to understand project requirements and ensure timely availability of materials.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendors to address inquiries, resolve issues, and maintain positive relationships.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to management regarding materials performance, inventory status, and cost-saving opportunities.

Requirements

  • Education: HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a materials manager or in a similar role, preferably within the property restoration, construction, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, inventory management systems, and supply chain best practices.
  • Proficient in using inventory management software and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to forecast needs and address inventory challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid Wisconsin state driver’s license.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Ability to stand, squat, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, walk, push, pull, crouch and crawl for long periods of time.
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects, from 50–100 lbs., necessary to perform job functions.
  • Ability to work in high and/or tight places.
  • Ability to maintain balance in all situations.
  • Ability to see and hear well with or without correction to avoid safety hazards to themselves and others.
  • Finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, writing implements, office equipment and calculator.
  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment.
  • Accurate vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various customers and meeting sites.
  • Ability to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
  • Working environments include outside of or inside of offices, shops, garages, and vehicles. Individuals may be exposed to inclement weather (hot, cold, or wet).
