About the role

As a Material Prep Operator in the Burn & Prep department, you will operate saws and support material preparation activities to ensure raw materials are accurately cut, kitted, deburred, and staged for downstream production. This safety-sensitive position demands attention to detail, safe material handling, and teamwork to maintain a steady flow of materials to downstream processes.

$1,200 sign-on bonus available. This role is based onsite at our Two Harbors, MN facility and is not eligible for immigration or work visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate one or more automatic or semi-automatic saws to cut metal stock to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Verify part dimensions using appropriate measuring tools such as tape measures and squares.
  • Read and interpret cut lists, prints, and work orders to determine material requirements.
  • Assist burn table operators with material staging, unloading, and part organization.
  • Perform deburring, grinding, and cleaning of plate steel and other components to prepare them for next-stage processing.
  • Kit and organize parts from saw and burn operations, staging them on appropriate pallets or racks for machining, fabrication, or assembly.
  • Communicate effectively with planners, supervisors, and team members to coordinate work and resolve issues.
  • Perform basic maintenance on saws and related equipment as required.
  • Enter and update production or material information in the ERP system as required.
  • Participate in safety and improvement initiatives within the Burn & Prep area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Burn & Prep Supervisor.

This position is classified as safety-sensitive under Minnesota Statutes. Employees in this role perform duties where impairment caused by drugs, alcohol, or cannabis could threaten safety or health.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing environments is a plus.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing materials and processes.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and the ability to enter, track, and confirm work data.
  • Knowledge of proper use of hand tools and grinders.

Skills

  • Skilled in operating saws, forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to read blueprints, prints, and work orders accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work safely and independently in a fast-paced environment.

Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $18.50 to $25.33 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

1st Shift: 6:00 AM–3:00 PM, Monday–Friday.
