Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily material handling operations, including forklift and overhead crane usage.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to production areas to prevent delays.
- Monitor equipment availability and coordinate resources across shifts and departments.
- Direct, coach, and evaluate the material handling team.
- Manage scheduling, staffing, and workload assignments to ensure full coverage.
- Conduct training on equipment operation, safety procedures, and standard work practices.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between material handling and other production supervisors.
- Maintain proactive communication to anticipate and resolve material flow issues.
- Provide regular updates on material movement status and challenges.
- Enforce safe operating procedures for forklifts, cranes, and all handling equipment.
- Monitor team adherence to OSHA and company safety standards.
- Lead team meetings around safety, participate in incident investigations, and administer corrective actions as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve material flow efficiency and reduce bottlenecks.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in material handling, warehouse, or manufacturing operations (supervisory experience strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of forklift and overhead crane operation and safety standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Able to coordinate multiple tasks and teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- OSHA certification(s) and/or forklift/crane operator certification a plus.
Reporting Structure
Reports To: Manufacturing Manager / Operations Manager
Supervises: Material Handling Team (forklift operators, crane operators, general laborers)
Job Requirements/Special Skills
- Requires working in conditions of varying heat and cold and where noise levels are at or above 90 decibels.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push and pull throughout the shift.
