Material Handler Night Shift

About the role
The Material Handler is responsible for safely handling and staging material for production at the paint line. The Material Handler is also responsible for preparing necessary materials for packaging of finished coils. In addition, the role ensures that finished coils are properly identified with a coil identification ticket and are stored properly in a designated location.
Responsibilities
- Prepare materials to be used for packaging and shipping of finished coils.
- Package finished coils in a safe manner and move those coils to a designated location for finished goods.
- Verify that finished goods (coils) are properly identified with an identification ticket prior to moving them to a storage area.
- Verify that finished goods (coils) are not damaged or visibly non-conforming prior to moving them to a designated storage area.
- Quarantine non-conforming material (using the HFI process) and notify Quality Control when non-conforming conditions exist.
- Understand and comply with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place.
- Communicate daily with internal personnel from Maintenance, Operations, and Quality Control to help resolve problems and achieve company goals.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence.
- Ability to communicate information in small group situations to other employees.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables in standard situations.
- Capable of driving a forklift, operating an overhead crane, and using various power tools.
- Trained and capable of assuming the position of payoff operator when necessary.
- Capable of recognizing metal defects.
Desired Qualifications
- 6+ months forklift experience desired.
- 12 months overhead crane experience preferred.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and occasionally required to stand, sit, bend, stoop, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance. The employee must be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.
Schedule
Night Shift: 5:45 PM to 6:00 AM
Pay
Wages starting at $22.50 per hour.
