About the role
A Material Handler III is a warehouse professional responsible for moving, storing, and organizing products and raw materials. They load and unload shipments, operate equipment like forklifts, side loaders, help prepare, secure, and guide heavy loads for crane lifting operations, control and operate Gantry cranes, track inventory, ensure goods are safely prepared for distribution or production lines, communicate with ground personnel, riggers, and truck drivers, manipulate levers, pedals, and joysticks to safely maneuver the crane and its load, calculate load weights, and ensure they do not exceed crane lifting capacities.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload shipments
- Operate equipment like forklifts, side loader, Gantry crane
- Control and operate Gantry crane
- Track inventory and ensure goods are safely prepared for distribution or production lines
- Communicate with ground personnel, riggers, and truck drivers using radios and hand signals
- Manipulate levers, pedals, and joysticks to safely maneuver the crane and its load
- Calculate load weights and ensure they do not exceed crane lifting capacities
- Safely drive and maintain powered industrial trucks, like forklifts, 35,000lb capacity forklift, reach trucks and tuggers, and terminal tractor
- Transport and store materials in designated racks and document the location of inventory
- Pull, pack, and stage materials or finished products for shipping and production orders
- Unload incoming freight, inspect deliveries for damage, and verify packing slips against actual contents
- Inspect loads, determine weight, and balance, and calculate the center of gravity before lifting
- Guide crane operators during blind or difficult lifts using standardized hand signals or radios
- Operate inside overhead cranes and jib cranes
- Choose the proper ropes, slings, chains, shackles, and beams required to safely secure the object
- Assemble, attach, and maintain the rigging equipment, and dismantle it once the job is complete
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly warehouse floor, complying with all OSHA and workplace safety standards
- Perform routine pre-use inspections on machinery
- Keep the loading docks, storage zones, and work environments organized and clean
- Routes items to departments
- Follow all safety protocols
- Perform inventory controls
- Scan barcodes and log product movements inside Warehouse Management Systems
Requirements
- 3-5+ years experience
- Advanced troubleshooting, operates material-handling equipment, operates indoor cranes/jib cranes, yard dogs and inventory control
- Training/mentoring others, may lead workflow activities
- Experience operating mobile gantry cranes preferred
- Cranes operator certification or ability to obtain required
- Knowledge of rigging and load control practices required
- Prior warehouse / material handling experience required
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Forklift experience required
Qualifications
- Ability to adapt to change in the workplace
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift heavy objects (often up to 50 lbs), and stand or walk continuously during shifts
- Ability to lift heavy gear, push/pull heavy loads, and work outdoors in demanding, elevated, or tight spaces
- Meticulous accuracy when reading labels, verifying part numbers, and executing stock rotations
- Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with supervisors, pickers, and truck drivers to ensure operations run seamlessly
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines, and maintain workflow efficiency
