Material Handler

About the role

The Material Handler and Receiver is responsible for the efficient movement, storage, and control of materials throughout the facility. This role involves receiving shipments, verifying inventory, delivering materials to production areas, and maintaining accurate inventory records. The Material Handler ensures smooth and timely flow of materials to support production processes while adhering to safety standards at our Salt Lake City, UT facility.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with procurement staff to list expected deliveries.
• Receive shipments, verify packages according to order and invoices, and sign paperwork upon receipt.
• Unload packages from incoming trucks and inspect contents to ensure they are undamaged; hold driver accountable prior to unloading.
• Contact supplier or shipper if a mistake is identified and manage the return of unsatisfactory shipments or receiving replacements.
• Label deliveries and allocate them to their designated place.
• Maintain accurate records and assist in inventory control by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock; record location of inventory.
• Locate materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials listed on production orders.
• Maintain in-process inventory at work centers by delivering and opening materials and supplies.
• Document materials and supplies disposition by recording units delivered and location of units.
• Receive credit-return material and supplies from production by verifying code, lot number, and quantity; place materials in stock.
• Prepare finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing product.
• Document product shipment by recording units shipped.
• Maintain material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections and making operator repairs.
• Support and comply with the company’s Integrated Management System, aligning with ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (Health and Safety) standards.
• Follow established procedures, contribute to continual improvement, and promote a culture of quality, environmental responsibility, and workplace safety.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Adhere to and ensure lockout procedures are followed any time equipment is being cleaned or maintained.
• Report unsafe conditions or practices to supervision to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Two (2) years of related material handler or receiving clerk experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with inventory control or inventory management.
• Basic math and recording abilities.
• Organized, deadline-oriented, and able to lift boxes and move pallets/crates.
• Prior forklift operation experience or ability to obtain forklift certification within a reasonable timeframe.
• Must be able to read and comprehend all documentation in English.
• Working knowledge of ERP computer programs for entering data (Infor experience preferred).

• Practice safe work habits, including proper lifting, bending, ergonomics, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks over an 8-hour period.
• Ability to lift 50–75 lbs.
• Unrestricted visual and audio abilities for employee safety.
• Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, safety shoes (steel or composite toe), and other applicable PPE.

Work Environment

The job is performed in a manufacturing production environment with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity are required. The role involves working under occasional temperature variations.
