Material Handler

About the Role

Under close supervision, you will expedite the movement of parts and materials between production areas by listing or moving raw materials and/or parts. You will prepare and coordinate schedules for pulling and delivering materials to control the flow of goods and regulate production floor space. The role involves safely operating equipment such as forklifts, hoists, and cranes to move materials along the production floor while adhering to all safety rules and practices.

Responsibilities

• Inbound: Unload trucks, trailers, and containers of freight. Count products and compare them to the manifest to check for damage, infestation, or production code dates. Report shortages, damages, and mis-shipments on appropriate forms. Sign for inbound shipments when necessary. Move all inbound shipments safely to storage locations and stack them efficiently.
• Order Picking: Ensure the correct product number, quantity, and type (lot, batch, serial number) of product are picked. Transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms using material handling equipment such as fork trucks, cherry pickers, or pallet jacks. Label, stencil, tag, mark orders, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize as required.
• Outbound: Compare quantity, labeling, and address with the order to ensure out-going shipments are complete and correct. Assign signatures for outbound shipments as necessary. Efficiently move product, cartons, and/or pallets into trailers, rail cars, or containers.
• Equipment: Maintain equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion. Operate equipment safely and efficiently. Comply with company standards and OSHA requirements.
• Inventory: Keep accurate records and reports. Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts. Ensure proper stock rotation. May key inventory adjustments in the computer.
• Other Duties: Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions. Repair and consolidate damaged goods as required. Operate shrink-wrap machines. Charge forklift batteries as needed. Stack and/or separate good from bad pallets. Clean railcars, trailers, and truck docks or bays as requested. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 6+ months of warehouse experience.
• OSHA Forklift and HAZMAT certification is a plus.
• Ability to use proper techniques to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to follow directions with an emphasis on safety.
• Ability to handle stress caused by meeting deadlines with tight scheduling requirements.
• Ability to shift priorities easily.
• Ability to use hands and feet simultaneously and for repetitive movements.
• Responsible work habits.
• Familiarity with warehouse systems.

Qualifications

• Education: High School education or GED preferred.
• Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret SOPs, documents, and regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively establish rapport, present information, and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Understanding of metric system measurements is beneficial.
• Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Other Skills:
  • Ability to type and operate a computer.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and operate office equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and company software.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort

The work environment is an industrial warehouse with exposure to moving mechanical machinery. The noise level is usually loud. The role may require working in heights, exposure to temperature changes, and potential exposure to dust, fumes, or gases.

• Stand and walk for the majority of the working day.
• Talk, hear, bend/stooop, squat, crawl, climb heights, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, and balance.
• Push/pull and lift/carry/push or pull up to 75 pounds with or without assistance.
• Use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating, and both feet for repetitive movement operating foot controls.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
