About the role
The Material Coordinator reviews ticket information and coordinates ink mixing, plate mounting, and tooling assignment.
Responsibilities
- Weighs and blends inks to meet job specifications for each order.
- Follows appropriate quality control and inspection processes for inks to ensure quality.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and documentation to produce press-ready inks to meet production schedule.
- Tests ink samples and documents results.
- May adjust inks at press and assist with ink estimation for jobs going to press.
- Maintains the work-off ink process by regulating use and storage.
- Assists in the ordering process by reviewing the long-term schedule to predict ink usage and identify special orders.
- Reviews suitability of finished matches on press.
- Reviews sustainability of press returns ink for recycling.
- Ensures plate mounting for all departments is complete.
- Responsible for pulling any required tooling for Flexo and Digital Finishing departments.
- Verifies that all materials are at press prior to job run.
- Assists pressman with make-ready’s, cleans and organizes the shop, and assists with press helper duties when needed.
- Assists with overall press room cleanliness, sweeping, mopping, and putting away supplies.
- Responsible for monitoring all needed supplies and notifying purchasing when levels drop below acceptable amounts.
- Assures that the correct type and adequate amount of material has been staged for every job.
- Creates awareness of priorities in production to know where help is needed most.
- Maintains an acute sense of timing in knowing what will be needed and when.
- Maintains knowledge of safety requirements of job and equipment and becomes familiar with material safety sheets regarding chemicals used.
- Wears all necessary safety protection when using or mixing chemicals, working on presses, or operating other equipment.
- Assists in other areas of production when workload permits.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to carry ink pans from the press to cleaning sink (1.5 to 4 pounds each) up to 16 times per shift.
- Must be able to bend or squat and pick up rolls of material (up to 16 inches wide, 6,000 feet long, and 150 pounds) up to 20 times per shift. Assistance is mandatory for large rolls.
- Must be able to bend or squat to clean press or equipment several times throughout the shift for several minutes at a time.
- Must be able to lift and carry waste rolls of material (up to 40 pounds) and waste rolls of matrix (up to 25 pounds) up to 15 times per shift, including lifting over waist high to dispose of them.
- Must be able to lift trashcans (up to 40 pounds) 7 to 8 inches high, place them on a pallet jack or two-wheeler, and lift them over waist high to empty into the dumpster, up to 4 times per shift.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods, sometimes exceeding two hours.
- Always ask for help when lifting heavy items beyond personal capability.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Background in fast-paced production environment helpful.
- Must be able to cooperate well with co-workers and management.
- Must have a strong sense of urgency.
- Strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must have well-rounded math skills and ability to read a ruler.
- Must be very detail-oriented.
- Strong knowledge of production workflow.
