About the role
Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure the safety, proper functionality, and aesthetics of facilities, equipment, or fixtures by following established preventive maintenance schedules and guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Inspects, cleans, and repairs facilities, equipment, or fixtures.
- Observes and documents signs of wear and tear.
- Gathers capital expense information and recommends repair needs to eliminate ongoing and future repairs.
- Determines replacement needs and documents preventive maintenance activities.
- Performs major and minor repairs on facilities, equipment, or fixtures using multiple craft skills (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, material handling equipment, food equipment).
- Inspects, operates, or tests facilities, equipment, or fixtures to diagnose issues.
- Dismantles equipment, machines, or facilities to access and remove defective parts.
- Diagnoses problems using blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs.
- Utilizes hand tools, power tools, hoists, and other equipment.
- Provides prompt response to emergency calls and documents repair activities.
- Performs pressure tests to identify leaks.
- Installs water supply lines, waste disposal systems, and gas lines.
- Serves as a technical subject-matter expert and lead for plumbing systems by analyzing complex plumbing issues, designing and planning solutions for large-scale repairs or modifications, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and national plumbing codes.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for external plumbing contractors and inspectors.
- Provides mentorship and technical guidance to Journeyman and Apprentice Plumbers and other Maintenance associates, including conducting training on proper plumbing techniques, code requirements, and safety protocols.
- Reviews work quality to ensure it meets Master-level standards.
- Manages work orders, maintenance schedules, and contractors by completing and providing required written and electronic information (e.g., expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, maintenance logs).
- Conducts price comparisons of parts and travel-related costs, orders parts and replacement equipment, tracks orders, records purchases and usage, and submits warranty claims.
- Complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and guidelines.
- Ensures quality work is completed that complies with federal, state, and local regulations, and ensures contractors follow Walmart quality standards, safety requirements, and meet contract requirements.
- Identifies and reports deficiencies.
- Unloads and stores equipment and transports equipment between facilities.
- Leads and participates in teams by using and sharing resources, information, and tools.
- Determines customer needs and business priorities, coordinates and executes work assignments, and provides advice, feedback, and support to ensure timelines and work quality are achieved.
- Models and helps others adapt to change or new challenges.
- Demonstrates, promotes, and supports compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.
- Uses the Open Door Policy and assists management with correcting ethical and compliance issues and problems.
- Follows safety procedures, responds to work orders, completes documentation, and coordinates with managers, coworkers, customers, and other business partners using verbal, written, and electronic communication methods.
- Maintains a safe work environment, observes and adheres to all safety policies and procedures, and reports all safety violations to management.
- Ensures all assigned equipment, tools, safety items, vehicles, trailers, and other items are maintained in proper working order by following proper maintenance and inventory schedules.
- Participates in an on-call rotation, occurring approximately every 4–6 weeks, to support business-critical needs outside of standard business hours.
- Maintains vehicles in working mechanical and cleanliness condition, coordinates and takes vehicles for required maintenance, and safely operates motor vehicles.
- Operates, inspects, and maneuvers heavy machinery and powered equipment (e.g., forklifts, material-handling equipment, industrial machines, shop equipment, vehicles) in accordance with training, certification requirements, and safety procedures.
- Performs pre-operation safety checks and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment is safe, functional, and compliant with applicable standards.
- Provides expert advice and guidance to others, supports and aligns efforts to meet customer and business needs, and builds commitment for perspectives and rationales.
- Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders and identifying business needs.
- Performs other facility-related maintenance duties as assigned.
