MASTER JEWELER & CUSTOM DESIGNER

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an accomplished Master Jeweler & Custom Designer to join a dedicated private jewelry studio in Raleigh, NC. This is not a traditional retail bench jeweler position. You will work in a professional studio environment designed to give experienced jewelers the space and concentration needed to create high‑end custom jewelry. There is no retail sales floor, no retail counter, and very limited direct customer interaction. Your primary focus will be craftsmanship, design, fabrication, CAD/CAM, and bringing unique jewelry concepts from idea to finished piece. This opportunity is ideal for a skilled bench jeweler, goldsmith, and designer who wants greater creative freedom and the opportunity to work on one‑of‑a‑kind and high‑end custom jewelry.

Responsibilities

• Design and produce high‑end custom jewelry from concept through completion.
• Create one‑of‑a‑kind jewelry pieces.
• Perform advanced goldsmithing, fabrication, stone setting, and finishing.
• Translate sketches, concepts, and ideas into precise production‑ready CAD/CAM designs.
• Use CAD software to develop detailed jewelry models and designs.
• Work independently while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship.
• Collaborate on unique jewelry designs and special projects.
• Contribute creative ideas for new jewelry designs and collections.
• Experiment with new designs, techniques, and approaches to jewelry making.
• Take projects from initial concept through CAD, fabrication, finishing, and completed piece.
• Maintain high standards for precision, quality, and overall presentation.

Requirements

• Demonstrated craftsmanship and creative ability.
• Strong experience as a bench jeweler, master jeweler, goldsmith, or custom jewelry designer.
• Advanced goldsmithing and fabrication skills.
• Strong stone‑setting experience.
• Excellent finishing and polishing skills.
• Strong CAD/CAM design capabilities.
• Experience with Rhino, Matrix, MatrixGold, or similar jewelry CAD software.
• Strong understanding of jewelry construction and manufacturing.
• Excellent attention to proportion, detail, balance, and design.
• Ability to take an idea or sketch and turn it into a finished piece.
• Ability to work independently and manage projects from concept through completion.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Genuine passion for fine jewelry, craftsmanship, and design.

Portfolio

A portfolio is required and will be a key part of the selection process. Include examples of finished jewelry pieces, custom work, CAD designs and renderings, stone‑setting work, fabrication and goldsmithing, original designs, works in progress, and sketches or concepts. The portfolio should demonstrate both technical craftsmanship and creative ability.

Work Environment

This position is designed for jewelers who want to focus on their craft without the typical distractions of a busy retail jewelry environment. You will work primarily in a dedicated studio, have limited direct customer interaction, will not work on a retail sales floor, and will not be responsible for retail sales. The role allows you to concentrate on detailed bench work, creative projects, and unique high‑end custom jewelry.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $90,000‑$125,000+ per year, based on experience, craftsmanship, and portfolio.
• Compensation based on experience, technical ability, and portfolio quality.
