Responsibilities
- Assists in building retaining walls, pools, walkways, patios, and other structures using bricks, stone, or concrete blocks
- Cuts or saws bricks for projects as necessary
- Mixes mortar and grout to be used to lay brick and places brick or concrete blocks on mortar bed
- Measures and examines brickwork to ensure structure is built correctly
- Consults with the project manager/foreman or client to determine the shape, consistency, finish, and other specifications of the project and plans accordingly
- Plans project and drying time to ensure that concrete will dry and cure correctly; monitors weather and wind throughout the process to ensure proper curing
- Buils and uses forms to shape concrete to specified levels and consistencies
- Uses a variety of tools, such as straight-edges, floats, rakes, shovels, trowels, and brooms, to spread, level, smooth, and finish concrete and surface
- Waterproofs or restores surface by applying hardening and sealing compounds
- Levels and evens surface as needed by chipping, scraping, and grinding uneven spots or ridges using power or hand tools
- Repairs and reinforces existing concrete surfaces, which may include removing ridges and cavities, resurfacing, or cleaning
- Cleans surface, tools, and surrounding area thoroughly
- Performs other related duties as assigned

- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of bricklaying techniques and procedures
- Possesses a thorough understanding of math and geometry
- Demonstrates excellent verbal communication skills
- Possesses a thorough understanding of the characteristics of concrete and ability to make plans based on that knowledge
- Ability to create, lay, and use concrete forms
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of and ability to use tools related to masonry
- Ability to work well with others
- Creates a variety of surfaces for various purposes
- Reliable to commute to and from the office on a daily basis
- Possesses a valid/active driver’s license
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical/vocational school program preferred
- Three years of related experience required
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and squatting
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time
- Physically able to perform labor required to lay bricks and concrete blocks
- Must be able to work in extremely noisy areas
- Excellent hand-eye coordination
- Must be able to work in all types of weather
