Essential Functions

• Performs a variety of semi-skilled masonry work to construct, maintain and repair roads, sidewalks, curbs, footings, walls, catch basins, ramps, storm drains, etc.
• Reads blueprints, pours concrete and footings, builds and lays forms and supports, lays brick, seals grout and concrete, etc.
• Determines amount of materials needed to complete projects and gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies.
• Maintains inventory levels and initiates requests for new or replacement materials as required.
• Ensures that work activities are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards; inspects roadways, sidewalks and drainage systems; identifies potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
• Inspects/tests machinery, equipment and parts for proper operations; makes adjustments, repairs or replacements as appropriate; reports problem situations.
• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
• Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; places safety cones, markers, or signs to alert employees/citizens of work areas and other potential hazards.
• Communicates with supervisor, other County departments and employees, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
• Operates or uses various equipment, tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains drills, saws, mixers, blowers, masonry tools, dump truck and other equipment.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of experience in masonry.
