About the role
The Marketing Writer/Editor position at Mount St. Mary’s University plays a crucial role in enhancing the university's visibility and image through various written and digital mediums.
Responsibilities
- Write and edit copy for a variety of audiences including prospective students, parents, alumni, donors, employees, and friends of the university.
- Create and develop copy for admissions and advancement marketing materials such as print publications, email, social media, video scripts, and other channels.
- Serve as a contributing writer for Mount Magazine, the University’s alumni magazine, in partnership with the Communications Coordinator.
- Manage and update content for the Mount News Center, including web copy maintenance for program pages, FAQ pages, and other evergreen content.
- Cover campus events through news articles, recaps, and event-specific social media content.
- Update and manage Mount Messenger, the University’s employee and student-facing daily newsletter.
- Update and manage Around the Mount, the monthly alumni e-newsletter.
- Ensure all work meets University brand standards and is factually accurate, timely, and error-free.
- Proofread and edit marketing and communications materials.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications or related field. 1-3 years of journalism, public relations, and/or marketing experience.
- Experience writing web content and working in marketing and communications preferred.
- Experience working with content management systems and HTML preferred.
- Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills and familiarity with AP Style.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and work effectively under deadlines.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of staff members and campus partners.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Basic photography skills.
Pay
$44,000 to $46,000/year (Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.)
