University of Illinois Extension transforms lives by connecting the citizens of Illinois to their land-grant university through educational programming. This role supports Unit 6’s mission by creating and designing educational, informational, and promotional digital and print materials to advance visibility within Cook County.
Responsibilities
- Create, develop, organize, and disseminate innovative marketing materials for various channels, including newsletters, emails, blog posts, digital signage, brochures/flyers, social media graphics, web content, signage, and annual reports in compliance with the Extension MarCom state team.
- Provide weekly marketing updates, define publicity goals, analyze metrics, and prepare regular marketing campaign reports (print, digital, and social) in cooperation with the Digital Strategy Coordinator.
- Develop reporting mechanisms to facilitate actionable analysis of tactical performance.
- Participate in and prepare marketing and communications training sessions for colleagues related to publicity and publication management.
- Assist in researching, creating, and executing strategic marketing and communications plans for individual programs to increase brand awareness, aligned with unit marketing campaigns.
- Provide quality assurance on marketing materials, including copyediting and proof-checking during production stages.
- Maintain the Unit’s social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, and publishing.
- Track and analyze Unit 6 website and social media statistics for optimization; measure analytics, report findings, and recommend changes to social media strategy.
- Develop and manage databases for data collection, analysis, reports, and grants; oversee data collection for reporting and prepare periodic reports.
- Formulate, monitor, and report on the marketing budget; assist in writing grant proposals.
- Oversee marketing-related equipment (e.g., camera, banners, tablecloths, and other promotional materials).
- Comply with University of Illinois Extension Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity policies and assist with data collection for related reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
- One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related area.
- Demonstrated experience writing and designing social media and/or website content.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience in communications or marketing.
- Experience with photography and videography.
Skills
- Knowledge of English language structure, composition, and grammar.
- Knowledge of recruitment practices and social media analytics, publishing tools, web analytics, and tracking technologies.
- Knowledge of marketing strategy, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
- Knowledge of media production, including social media platforms, communication techniques, and dissemination methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, presentation software, spreadsheet software, video creation and editing software, web page creation and editing software, and analytical or scientific software.
- Skill in producing live social media coverage and professional communication.
- Skill in identifying complex problems, evaluating options, and implementing solutions.
- Skill in time management, organizing work assignments, and responding to challenges.
- Ability to develop and execute marketing and strategic communications plans.
Schedule
- Full-time (100%), 12-month Civil Service position.
- Work may require evenings and/or weekends.
- Must be able to travel between office and community locations; personal transportation required.
Pay
Budgeted salary for the position is $52,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
