About the role

The Marketing & Communications Manager is a generalist adept in writing and editing, producing video and photography content, and providing Marketing and Communications-related event support. This role serves as a mission-driven, equity-centered staff member who contributes regularly to advance the organization’s commitment to anti-racism, social justice, and belonging. The position leads editorial and content calendars, social media, digital marketing campaigns, and reporting. It supports strategic communications and marketing strategies that elevate the organizational mission, values, and goals, amplify Treehouse’s impact, and inspire public and philanthropic support.

The Marketing & Communications Manager produces engaging and informative short- and long-form digital and print content for internal and external audiences inclusively and equitably, helps retain and expand Treehouse's reach, and ensures the needs of the youth Treehouse serves are met through a culturally responsive and inclusive approach.

Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to the implementation of marketing and communications strategy to elevate the voice of youth and people with lived experiences in foster care, as well as provide visibility and engagement to the organization’s mission, vision, values, and commitment to anti-racism work.
  • Community-Building Marketing and Communications – Social Media: Lead and manage social media planning, content development, and campaigns. Develop engaging, effective, and relevant content in partnership with other staff that provides insight into stories, experiences, news, and issues related to foster care and Treehouse—aligned with organizational values. Foster and grow the Treehouse community of social media ambassadors and influencers inclusively and equitably. Track and report on performance and analytics of social media posts and content. Identify relevant trending topics in social media and foster care conversations. Stay updated on social platform and industry changes to keep the Treehouse brand relevant. Optimize social media to grow and diversify the Treehouse community and database.
  • Content Creation, Copywriting, Branding, and Production: Support writing and editing for external communications, including social media, websites, reports, blog posts, mailings, and collateral (donor-facing materials). Lead the creation and tracking of Treehouse editorial and publication calendars. Adhere to brand guidelines for identity, voice, and tone to ensure clear, consistent, and compelling language across all materials. Produce photos, video, and stories highlighting Treehouse’s diverse partnerships and community. Support internal communications through designated channels and platforms. Maintain Treehouse style guide standards. Assist with video creation, editing, and event support as needed.
  • Marketing Strategy: Develop, optimize, execute, and evaluate integrated marketing campaigns to build awareness and deepen audience engagement inclusively and equitably. Conduct market research, monitor digital marketing trends, oversee digital campaigns, and identify opportunities in the digital space. Analyze audience journeys and relevant data to inform engagement strategies.
  • Email Marketing: Develop, plan, and track performance for email communications to engage and build a diverse audience using targeted content, audience segments, and A/B testing. Coordinate the email communications calendar for all Treehouse audiences and establish best practices. Partner across teams to maintain and build email lists. Support writing and delivery of engaging e-newsletters.
  • Web and Online Marketing: Support online marketing strategies across multiple channels, including email, social media, and website. Assist with maintenance and content for external and internal websites.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Maintain a workplace environment where support systems for youth engage positively and respectfully, modeling dignity, accountability, and care.
    • Engage in ongoing education and reflection to strengthen Treehouse’s ability to support the growth, success, and well-being of historically underserved students.
    • Collaborate to build long-term, respectful partnerships with community groups and organizations to ensure offerings to youth are culturally grounded and community-informed.
    • Practice abundance by ensuring youth receive plentiful educational and community resources, adjusting priorities through open dialogue and feedback to ensure equitable service.
    • Establish inclusive, welcoming, and equitable team engagement, ensuring a safe, positive, and respectful experience for all racial and gender identities.
    • Embrace transformation by seeking perspectives across the organization and with partner organizations to evolve how Treehouse serves students with curiosity and openness to new ideas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing an organization’s social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating data, current issues, and research into communications.
  • Demonstrated experience managing production of communication materials and projects.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Asana, Monday.com) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and design software desired.
  • Experience with photography, video editing, and production skills preferred.
  • Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and minimum WA State driver insurance coverage required (if applicable). Driving record must be approved by Treehouse’s insurance provider.
  • Must satisfy Washington State and national criminal background requirements for working with youth and vulnerable adults.

Skills

  • Familiarity with AP Style.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to produce quality work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and ability to engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Ability to work effectively across functions and with diverse audiences, including young people who have experienced foster care or other kinds of trauma.
  • Ability to thrive while working independently outside an office setting while maintaining trusting, healthy relationships with coworkers and manager.
  • Ability to build positive and effective working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365 tools and other necessary technology for day-to-day business operations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Schedule

  • Full-time, hybrid position.
  • Expected hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
  • Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must reside within Washington State to comply with workplace reporting requirements.
  • Occasional regional travel during working hours to meet with team members, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Infrequent overnight travel required.

Working Conditions

  • Physical Requirements: Long periods of stationary work, working on a computer, moving between work areas, going up and down stairs, talking on the phone, working with office/computer equipment, and sitting at a desk or table while listening, talking, and taking notes.
  • Mental Requirements: Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, consider alternative and diverse perspectives, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, remain poised under all circumstances, and interact effectively with people in a positive manner that creates confidence and trust.

Pay

This position’s annual pay range is $63,993.90 - $71,672.55.
