Market Director of Sales
About the Role
As the Market Director of Sales (MDOS), you will develop and implement the total sales and marketing strategy for two or more hotels located in the same market (Sonesta ES Suites Torrance and Sonesta Select Torrance). Your goal is to ensure joint occupancy, average daily rate, and market share goals are achieved by creating and executing specific revenue, sales, and marketing strategies and tactical plans for each hotel and the joint enterprise. You will monitor results and adjust strategies to respond to current market conditions, positioning each hotel competitively. The role involves working directly with multiple General Managers and the Regional leadership team to identify extended stay strategies and tactics that drive revenue based on seasonal demand. You will also manage hotel Sales Managers, collaborate with Sonesta’s Marketing, Revenue Management, and Global Sales teams, and leverage national brand strategies at the local level.
Responsibilities
- Deliver Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients, adhering to Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and fostering a passion for customer service among all hotel associates.
- Develop new accounts, maintain existing accounts, and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue goals and maximize profits while maintaining guest satisfaction.
- Build and maintain relationships with key clients to produce extended stay room sales through direct client contact.
- Partner with hotel General Managers and the Regional Sales Director to maximize RevPar opportunities in the local market.
- Achieve budgeted revenues and personal/team sales goals to maximize profitability within all areas of responsibility.
- Participate in the preparation of annual departmental operating budgets, the market’s sales and marketing plan, and financial plans supporting the overall objectives of all hotels.
- Produce regular reports and sales forecasts.
- Collaborate with the senior leadership team of the hotels to positively impact operational effectiveness.
- Manage the Sales team, including planning, organizing, and assigning work, developing and communicating strategies and goals, and providing training and motivation.
- Create and implement tactical sales plans to drive measurable incremental occupancy, increase average rates, and boost business volume during off-peak periods.
- Enhance the image of the hotels in the local community.
- Monitor sales activities and performance to ensure actual sales exceed the established revenue plan.
- Analyze current and potential market and sales trends, coordinating activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share.
- Coordinate with other hotel-level departments to facilitate agreed-upon services.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with local community groups and officials.
- Serve as the market representative for media inquiries, referring sensitive matters to the Corporate Communications Department as needed.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on account, individual, segment, and tier production.
- Act as "Manager on Duty" as required.
- Attend Evening Social and Breakfast events to greet guests and prospect for additional sales leads.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding health, safety, and alcohol services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Previous Director of Sales experience required.
- Previous background in the extended stay industry preferred.
- Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English; other languages are beneficial.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.
- Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Opera, and Automated Sales Systems preferred.
- Ability to travel, including some overnight travel, is required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Frequently standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving about the facility.
- Ability to carry, lift, or pull items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent handling of objects and equipment.
This position is classified as exempt and is not subject to overtime in accordance with Federal and State Regulations. This job description is subject to change at any time.
Pay
Anticipated pay range: $110,000 - $115,000. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and specific experience/overall experience.
