Market Design Leader (District Manager)

About the role
The Market Design Leader (MDL) achieves sales goals while maintaining satisfactory profit performance, gross margin, inventory levels, and customer service. Tech-savvy, the MDL maintains Design Center image through a planned merchandising program ensuring the Ethan Allen brand is consistent. Responsible for the overall management of the design center, the MDL drives new business and increases sales with grassroots marketing initiatives and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Achieve budgeted sales growth and establish a plan for continued improvement.
- Cultivate an environment in which the staff is inspired to reach their fullest potential in relation to business growth.
- Follow Ethan Allen’s Leadership Principles including implementing change initiatives and developing successful relationships with the team.
- Hold team accountable while coaching and leading them to meet or exceed established sales goals and benchmarks.
- Drive new business and increase sales with grassroots marketing initiatives, including partnering with local businesses, developing Trade business (including PPP), and using social media, blogs, online forums, and other digital platforms.
- Perform all functions necessary for the development of sales and profits of assigned design centers and, where applicable, service centers.
- Review P&L statements monthly with Market Operations Leader and Retail Accountant, as well as review final P&L with each Design Center Leader.
- Develop relationships and participate in community programs that positively impact individual design centers, the district, and the company.
- Supervise and evaluate activities of all leadership within the assigned district, providing advice, counsel, guidance, leadership, motivation, and accountability for performance. Complete performance appraisals (including annual appraisals and monthly/quarterly BMRs) in accordance with company policy.
- Ensure adherence to all company policies such as Code of Conduct, workplace harassment, sexual harassment, and discrimination and/or retaliation.
- Provide guidance and assistance to key personnel to ensure sales growth, financial integrity, and the protection of company assets.
- Implement company policies and procedures. Monitor compliance and help management hold all staff accountable for compliance.
- Provide training and development for leadership while assisting them with the development of their respective teams.
- Work in concert with retail accounting and Regional Leadership to prepare monthly and annual sales budgets and forecasts for all assigned design centers within the market.
- Participate in the determination of district market potential, the preparation of district expense estimates, and the development of proper financial and asset controls.
- Contribute ideas and suggestions for changes and improvements in policy affecting design centers in the district.
- Ensure proper reconciliation of inventories as conducted and reported.
- Propose innovative strategies that support growth and improvement of the business.
Requirements
- BA or BS degree in Business and/or Interior Design with courses in accounting, economics, management, or similar areas.
- Minimum of five years in retail sales management and merchandising.
- Experienced in budget forecasting, monitoring and preparation of financial reports, managing sales growth, and procuring profits.
- Supervisory experience required; multi-store management experience preferred.
- An entrepreneurial attitude and approach with excellent business sense.
- Ability to effectively communicate and motivate people.
- Must be accessible to associates on holidays, weekends, and evenings as the business demands.
- Travel within the district is required, as well as limited overnight travel.
Pay
This position offers a starting base salary of $95,000 to $110,000, depending on experience. In addition to the base salary, MDLs can earn monthly incentive compensation by demonstrating sales growth from prior periods.
