Manufacturing Software Engineering Intern

The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher, offering meaningful work that builds on classroom learning. Programs are project-based, with students receiving a project at the beginning of the summer and presenting it at a project expo at the end of the summer. The company emphasizes innovative systems, environmental stewardship, and community well-being.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test an interactive system for problem identification and troubleshooting that can grow as knowledge and equipment are added.
• Create training materials to support new technician orientation.
• Document software usage, functionality, and methods for adding information.
• Assist engineering and maintenance in daily troubleshooting of equipment issues.
• Support the design, development, and testing of new or modified equipment, components, and systems.
• Update and create engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, and process flow diagrams.
• Collaborate on continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety within manufacturing processes.
• Participate in equipment installations, commissioning activities, or process trials under engineer guidance.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables to communicate project progress and results.
• Engage with cross-functional teams including maintenance, production, quality, and safety to drive project success.
• Support internal and external communication efforts related to engineering projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools.
