Responsibilities
- Plan and manage production schedules: Determine what products to produce, when, and on which machines or production lines, using job orders, inventory data, and customer due dates.
- Coordinate with departments: Work closely with production, sales, purchasing, and management to align schedules with delivery commitments and resource availability.
- Monitor and adjust schedules: Track production progress, update schedules for changes in material availability, capacity constraints, or customer requirements, and resolve delays.
- Manage resources: Ensure labor, materials, and equipment are available and utilized efficiently to minimize costs and avoid downtime.
- Inventory control: Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages that could delay production or delivery.
- Reporting: Generate production reports, track performance metrics, and communicate status updates to management and stakeholders.
- Problem-solving: Identify and address issues affecting production, implement corrective actions, and maintain smooth operations.
Requirements
- Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in operations, supply chain, industrial technology, or related field; some employers accept experience-based hiring.
- Experience: Demonstrated scheduling or production experience; 2+ years in similar roles often preferred.
- Technical skills: Familiarity with APS (Advanced Planning and Scheduling) software, logistics planning tools, and production management systems.
- Soft skills: Strong organizational, communication, and time management abilities; ability to multitask and work collaboratively.
- Certifications: APICS CPIM or CSCP can be advantageous.
