Manufacturing Operator - Night Shift Sign on Bonus

About the role

Charter Steel, a fourth‑generation family‑owned steel producer in Saukville, WI, is hiring for two night‑shift production positions: Billet Conditioner (Melting Department) and Banding Operator. Both roles are full‑time, 12‑hour night shifts with a rotating 5‑2‑2‑5 schedule and offer competitive pay, a hiring bonus, and a full benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Billet Conditioner: Use power tools to remove kerf from billets; apply ID tags with a welding torch and mark billets with chalk; place chains and spacer bars between billets; perform quality inspections; operate an overhead crane; frequent walking, standing, push/pull, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
• Banding Operator: Enter and monitor order data into the computer; accurately identify coils by printing and applying tags; operate coil compactor and other coil handling equipment; operate hydraulic and pneumatic hand tools; operate a forklift; follow all safety and quality procedures; frequent standing, walking, kneeling; push/pull and lifting up to 20 lbs; reaching over 15″ away from the body.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (free GEDWorks program available)
• Comfortable with basic math (counting and simple calculations)
• Team player with good communication skills
• Background in manufacturing, industrial production, assembly, warehouse, welding, construction, metals, steel, or other hands‑on jobs
• Forklift and/or overhead crane experience is a plus
• Strong commitment to safe work practices
