Manufacturing Operator - Night Shift + Sign on Bonus

About the role

Charter Steel, a fourth‑generation family‑owned business in Saukville, WI, is hiring for two night‑shift production positions: Billet Conditioner (Melting Department) and Banding Operator. Both roles offer $26.50 per hour plus a $2,000 hiring bonus, weekly paychecks every Thursday, and a range of bonuses and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Billet Conditioner:
  • Rotate through different positions throughout the 12‑hour shift
  • Use power tools to remove kerf from billets
  • Apply ID tags using a welding torch and mark billets with chalk
  • Place chains and spacer bars between billets
  • Perform quality inspections
  • Operate an overhead crane
  • Frequent walking, standing, push/pull, and lifting up to 35 lbs
• Banding Operator:
  • Enter and monitor order data into the computer
  • Accurately identify coils by printing and applying tags throughout the process
  • Operate coil compactor and other coil handling equipment
  • Operate hydraulic and pneumatic hand tools
  • Operate a forklift
  • Teamwork and communication are essential
  • Follow all safety and quality procedures
  • Frequent standing, walking, kneeling; push/pull; lifting up to 20 lbs; reaching over 15″ away from the body

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (FREE GEDWorks program available)
• Comfortable with basic math (counting and simple calculations)
• Team player who works well and communicates with others
• Background in manufacturing or industrial production, assembly, warehouse, welding, construction, metals, steel, or other hands‑on jobs
• Forklift and overhead crane experience is a plus
• Strong safe‑work mindset

Pay

$26.50 per hour plus a $2,000 hiring bonus. Weekly paychecks issued every Thursday. Additional bonuses include sign‑on bonus, quarterly performance bonuses, referral bonuses, and profit‑sharing bonus.

Schedule

Full‑time night shifts with stable hours and overtime available. Both positions follow a rotating 5‑2‑2‑5 schedule (5 nights on, 2 off, 2 on, 5 off) with 12‑hour shifts. Shift times: Billet Conditioner – 4:30 pm to 4:30 am; Banding Operator – 5:00 pm to 5:00 am.
