Manufacturing Maintenance Supervisor
What You’ll Lead
Lead a 3rd-shift maintenance team of approximately 10 maintenance and electronic trades team members who are supporting a highly automated manufacturing operation. Your job is to lead the work—not personally make every repair. You’ll set daily priorities, assign scheduled work, monitor quality and completion, develop technicians, and make sure equipment is ready for Production.
What Your Shift Looks Like
Third shift gives the maintenance team significant access to equipment while production is down. Expect the work to center around:
- Scheduled Maintenance: Drive preventive and corrective work-order completion
- Troubleshooting: Lead follow-up on mechanical, electrical, automation, and controls issues
- Shutdown & Startup: Coordinate equipment disassembly, reassembly, and production startup
- Team Leadership: Assign work, manage priorities, coach technicians, and establish accountability
- Performance: Use CMMS data and maintenance KPIs to improve execution and reliability repairs/troubleshooting
This is a leadership-first role. Personal hands-on troubleshooting and repair should generally represent no more than approximately 10% of the position; the primary responsibility is leading the team, directing work, and driving execution.
Equipment & Skills You’ll Use
- Mechanical systems
- Industrial electrical
- PLCs & HMIs
- VFDs & motor controls
- Instrumentation
- Automation & controls
- Preventive maintenance
- CMMS
- Equipment reliability
You don't need to be the top expert in every discipline. You need enough technical breadth to effectively lead mechanics, electro-mechanics, electricians, and instrumentation/controls technicians.
You’ll Be a Strong Fit If You Can...
- Lead a multidisciplinary maintenance team in an automated manufacturing environment
- Prioritize preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance
- Direct technical troubleshooting without taking over every repair
- Use a CMMS and maintenance KPIs to manage work and performance
- Develop technicians with different skill and experience levels
- Work effectively with Operations, Engineering, Sanitation, and FSQA
- Create accountability while maintaining safety, quality, and food-safety standards
What You Don’t Need
- Food-manufacturing experience is not required.
- Strong experience from another established, highly automated manufacturing environment can translate.
- We can also be flexible on SAP, our specific equipment and controls platforms, and formal education when you bring equivalent technical and leadership experience.
What You Can Build Here
This team has real work to do. You'll have the opportunity to improve preventive-maintenance execution, strengthen technician capability, establish better work discipline, and help move Maintenance from reactive work toward a more proactive reliability model. Success includes:
- 80%+ labor utilization
- 90%+ PM work-order compliance
- Improved schedule compliance
- Reduced maintenance-related downtime
- A more capable and self-sufficient team
What You Should Know Before Applying
- This is a 3rd-shift role in a cold, wet food-manufacturing environment.
- You'll inherit skill gaps, competing Production and Maintenance priorities, and opportunities to improve work-execution discipline.
- You won't be dropped directly onto nights. The role includes a structured cross-shift onboarding period before transitioning fully to third shift.
