About the role
The Manufacturing Technologist I supports Manufacturing Engineering by ensuring production processes remain safe, compliant, and ready for daily operations. This role maintains key production documentation, performs equipment and workstation updates, and contributes to risk assessments related to process or equipment changes. The technologist works with cross-functional teams to resolve production issues, support change control activities, and maintain standardized work practices. They assist in continuous improvement efforts focused on tools, workflows, and production efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled calibration, verification, and basic maintenance on production tools, fixtures, gauges, and test equipment.
- Maintain calibration records and ensure full compliance with internal quality requirements and external standards.
- Troubleshoot and identify common equipment issues, escalating complex problems to engineering or maintenance teams.
- Work with equipment owners and quality teams to ensure calibration intervals, procedures, and documentation remain up to date.
- Program equipment for the creation of completed assemblies.
- Participate in project risk analysis and hazard analysis.
- Drive requirements with other members of the team (team lead, architect, etc.) and proactively work to integrate with system requirements.
- Utilize engineering best practices (unit and integration testing, static analysis, code reviews).
- Prioritize and manage workload, while remaining productive, in a fast-paced environment.
- Support modernization and continuous improvement of the development process and tools.
- Work cooperatively within the group as well as across disciplines such as systems, electrical, optical, and mechanical to deliver projects on-time and on budget.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree (STEM preferred) and 2+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Basic understanding of calibration principles, measurement tools, and test equipment.
- Experience with calibration software or equipment management systems.
- Exposure to ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
- Experience in equipment setup, tool management, or workbench ergonomics design.
- Basic understanding of ESD-safe workstation design, if applicable.
- Knowledge of basic electrical or mechanical troubleshooting.
Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with production tools and fixtures.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and equipment manuals.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts (e.g., 5S, Kanban, visual management).
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues on the production floor.
- Comfort working in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- IPC-610 training/experience.
- Knowledge of ESD procedures.
- Understanding of revision control systems and issue tracking systems.
- Mechanical tooling/fixtures aptitude.
- Ability to read/interpret Bill of Materials and Assembly drawings.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously (good organizational and multi-tasking skills).
