Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer I to join the A320 Engineering Department in Mobile, AL.

About the role

Responsible for the manufacturing assessment of non-conformities, late changes to support production, and identifying continuous improvement opportunities for the manufacturing process. This role involves responding to technical questions, explaining work orders and drawings (especially for aircraft mechanical items), and establishing effective communications with FAL production as an interface to the on-site back office for work order adaptation.

Meet the team

Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility manage aircraft assembly from concept to customer delivery, working with production teams on technical information, quality control, maintenance, and health & safety across flowlines and flightlines.

Your working environment

The Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility, located at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. This facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and supports Airbus’ global competitiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Handle Non-Conformities (50%):
    • Create specific work orders for FAL rework (Cabin, Systems, Electrics, or Structures by Station).
    • Establish and verify the technical content of non-conformities and validate in documentation.
    • Provide technical support to production on all issues, including oversight of directed changes.
    • Incorporate implicit knowledge into work instructions and refine them for clarity, detail, and regulation assignment.
    • Initiate availability of replacement parts, jigs, and tools required for work.
  • Continuous Improvement (50%):
    • Manage continuous improvement measures for reoccurring non-conformities in cooperation with quality.
    • Participate as an active team member to support ME activities in the FAL.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Support completion of the routing verification process (RVP) for new or updated processes.
    • Participate in dedicated training plans and provide orientation support to new colleagues and trainees.
    • Assist with additional projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience).
  • 0-3 years of experience in Aerospace, preferably in an Aerospace Final Assembly Line.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, practices, methods, and tools.
  • Understanding of supply chain management and quality system management.
  • Familiarity with non-conformities and design query notes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal customers.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs).
  • Ability to work autonomously and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Willingness to work 1st, 2nd, and potentially 3rd shift schedules to support production needs.
  • Ability to communicate with international colleagues and collaborate across multifunctional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Airbus Industries mechanical and electrical processes & methods.
  • Experience with Airbus IT-Tools (Zamiz, TAKSY, DocMaster, ECM, Airina).
  • Familiarity with SAP/R3 (Module PP/PM).
  • Understanding of aircraft structure installation and rules for aircraft design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and practices.
  • Fluency in German or French.

Physical Requirements

  • Work Environment: 100% onsite.
  • Vision: Ability to read computer screens, documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Ability to participate in conversations (in-person, teleconference, or phone) and hear sounds on the production floor (including safety warnings/alarms).
  • Speaking: Ability to communicate in conversations, meetings, and presentations.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to operate office equipment (computers, phones, copiers) and production tools (e.g., hydraulic lifts).
  • Carrying/Lifting: Ability to carry/lift documents, tools, drawings, and equipment up to 30 lbs/14 kg.
  • Mobility: Ability to push/pull small office furniture, sit for extended periods, squat/kneel, stand, and walk (including uneven surfaces).
  • Travel: Ability to travel independently (5% domestic and international, potentially at short notice).

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Required PPE includes safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, and/or protective gloves as required by site or customer site.
  • Administrative positions require steel-toed shoes for shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required.

Travel Required: 5% Domestic and International.
